In order to gain more experience in the games development pipeline I have begun work developing art and assets for Game Jams. This jam was my very first time doing anything along these lines outside of an academic capacity, this was the Gdevelop 3 Game jam and I took part in it with a team of two others, our programmer worked on our coding and game design and our audio engineer who developed all audio for the game.
I was responsible for all the games art assets excluding some of the UI which was handled by our programmer. The theme of this game jam was “Separated” so the way we took this idea was that parts of our main characters body had become separated and they have to work together to solve puzzles and reach the end of the game. Throughout the process I created sprite animations, character, environment and monster designs all of which came together into the final project. Some assets developed by me did not make it into the final build of the game but I will share them here to show the work I developed for the project.

I learned a lot from this first experience and while I feel that it was a little rough around the edges I still proud of the fact that I was able to produce what was needed to make a functional build of the game possible. In the process of developing each of the assets I was in communication with our lead developer constantly receiving feedback and altering the designs to best suit the games theme and overall style, having never done it before I was able to create sprite sheets for the simple animations that went into the game as well as developing an environmental background which wraps seamlessly. This was a very interesting experience and it has fuelled my passion to develop the very best art I can to make games come to life.
