I wanted to challenge myself with a new project, most of the work I produce is fantasy themed and I feel the need to expand upon the range of work I am able to produce. For this project I wanted to sketch out and design a Mech that would contain a pilot and be capable of providing security on alien planets.
I started sketching and settled on an initial idea I was happy with then I moved on to creating variations of that initial design. Once I had done that I took the visual elements I felt worked well and combined them into a final design I was happy with.
In order to gain more of an understanding of the design as a whole I then created a turn around view of the complete design to show it in all it’s different angles.
Using this I was able to determine the scale of the design as well as refine some of the details that couldn’t be seen in the initial sketches.
Finally I wanted to create a final piece for this design in a visual style I don’t normally use, I relied on more simple linework and basic colour to define the forms and textures throughout the piece. I chose to include more environmental elements in order to provide some visual context for scale and overall I am happy with the way this final piece turned out. The design was modified slightly from the turnaround to include some weapon hardpoints where defensive and offensive measures might be positioned on the design. I feel like it shows off the design as a whole as well as providing some visual narrative for its potential uses and deployment.
