Following on from the dwarven guard from yesterday I wanted to develop the city he would be protecting. The great city of Jormundael sits at the peak of the second highest mountain in the range. It can be accessed by both climbing the mountain on foot or through the main access from the sea. The dwarves of the mountain saw that the great riches they had access to would be a great boon to them in the world of trade, however the road to the mountain is long and treacherous so few trade caravans would make the perilous journey. Jormun, Founder and first king of Jormundael tasked the kingdoms best engineers to find them a way to access the easy trade routes of the sea. The solution they devised produced an engineering marvel of the current age. The Sea Locks of Jormundael allow ships of all sizes access from the Errald Sea all the way to the internal mountain lake at the heart of the city. The great gates seal and the waters rise allowing even the mightiest trading vessels to float to the mountains peak. From the first gate at sea level you can see all the way to the very top of the mountain where the mighty beacon of Jormun lights the skies, inviting one and all to sample the cities riches.
I am pleased with how the initial designs for the great gates turned out. I wanted to create something impressive but still vaguely believable. I’m looking forward to expanding more on the designs behind the gates in the future.
