Nearly at the halfway mark already. Today’s drawing follows on from yesterdays. The arch at the top of the mountain seen in the landscape from yesterday is the main access point to the City of Jormundael. Today’s drawing is a closer look at that arch and what lies beyond it. The city of jormundael sprawls inside the mountain around the edge of an enormous internal lake. The city consists of this surface level arrangement of buildings for trade, warehouses and shipyards and a much larger network of caves and halls for residential and work districts deeper into the mountain. The city itself is illuminated consistently by the enormous hanging lantern at it’s centre. This lantern provides light to the majority of the city on this first level allowing outsiders from all walks of life to arrive and trade in a comfortable environment. There are also large crystalline panels carved through the mountainside to provide line of sight to the sky in order to determine the time of day.
Overall I’m quite pleased with the initial design for this city. In future versions of it I will be rearranging the composition of the drawings to include more buildings in the background in order to make the city seem more densely populated like a thriving trade hub would.
