This was another piece of work I began several months ago and only recently restarted work on it. This creature was made through an exercise where I needed to find a skeleton of a real animal, study it and then build a new creature over that bone structure without adding any major changes to the overall structure.
The skeleton I decided to use was that of a brown bear, I felt that I would be able to create an interesting and powerful looking creature using that as a base. The overall design I went for in this painting was trying to create a swamp dwelling ambush predator, something that could lie low in the shallows blending in to the long grass and rocks breathing though the tubes attached to it’s back.
I feel that I was quite successful in creating a seemingly powerful creature and I very much enjoyed the opportunity to paint such an unusual colour of fur.
