Inktober 2021: Day 21

The inhabitants of the Errald sea are a fearsome folk. Over the course of centuries they have scraped out a somewhat comfortable existence around the island of Venkarigan by learning to be the best sailors in the known world. Few captains of other nations are brave or experienced enough to try their hand at the waters. Those who are inevitably have dealings with the locals and must resort to acts of piracy themselves to survive. The area has been lucrative for trade in recent history as the Ratfolk have accepted the benefits of trade with the outside world, it is now far more common to see foreign trading vessels in the Errald Sea than it has ever been before. The ratfolk themselves are a wiry people, well adapted to climbing quickly and swimming fast, they have extremely agile hands and are able to manage the ropes of a ship like it’s part of their own body. They are naturally more resistant to diseases like scurvy and are capable of surviving long periods of time without food. Their natural speed, their innate skill as sailors and their sheer numbers has made them some of the most fearsome sea fairing fighters the world has ever seen.

For this character I wanted to get more action into the pose itself, I feel like I achieved that but I could have pushed the idea further. I was quite pleased with the design of the face but I feel like it could be pushed further, I want the ratfolk to be a generally intimidating people based on their reputation and I feel like that would work better if I could create a more intimidating appearance. I feel like I did alright in this drawing but I will need to work on the overall look in the future. I also need to push the idea of them being Rat-Folk. The features that make that more obvious were a little lost in this drawing.
