For today’s drawing I wanted to develop the idea of a character that would rule the Ratfolk as a royal figure. This title is not hereditary and is usually either taken by force or passed on by vote to the next most worthy candidate. Whatever the needs of the nation are at the time it is decided if the current ruler is capable of handling it or if a new ruler is required to get the job done. I also wanted to showcase the physical differences between the Ratfolk as a species. I wanted to create a drawing that would show that while ratfolk are often small and wiry creatures they can also be impressively large and strong.
The design I created for the throne was a simple enough idea but I feel like that could be improved upon. I feel like I managed to capture a sense of personality through the pose of the sitting figure, I wanted to create an air of relaxed superiority that I feel I managed to also work into the expression. For the larger figure I wanted to create the impression that he was a fighter and a survivor so I worked on adding cut details into the ears and scarring in the face. Overall I’m quite pleased with the results of this drawing.
