For today’s drawing I wanted to go back to creature design. I wanted to create something that could be a viable threat to fishermen and larger boats so I chose to sketch out an initial design for a sea giant. These creatures would live in waters in the medium depth ranges constructing shelters and homes out of driftwood and ship wreckage. They are capable of breathing both water and air and use this to both scavenge the shorelines of the islands nearby as well as attack sailing ships when they are in large enough groups.
I was quite pleased with the overall design of this giant. I feel like I managed to create a sense of weight while incorporating features of deep sea creatures. I wanted to create a creature that looks like it could survive deep sea temperatures as well as function on land. I also wanted to include a sense of motion as it leaves the sea having captured a large fish.
